v.0.12.2 'Mech quirks and scrap

  • Faction territories were remade using dynamic mesh generation. No more DirectX issues; everyone should now see the new borders.
  • Also fixed bugs with excessive bonuses when using heat-seeking missiles.
  • After defeat, according to the rules of Hinterlands, you can now buy back your mechs from your enemies by paying a ransom.

And the main thing in the update.

People complained about the lack of objectives in sandbox mode. To address this, I did two things.

Spare parts currency is introduced. It is used to repair mechs and can be obtained either at Factories or by scrapping defeated mechs.

The use of multiple currencies should provide greater flexibility and opportunities.

A bunch of mech quirks from Alpha Strike Companion implemented:

  • Battle Computer
  • Command BattleMech
  • Cowl
  • Easy to Maintain
  • Extended Torso Twist
  • Improved Targeting (Short)
  • Improved Targeting (Medium)
  • Improved Targeting (Long)
  • Modular Weapons
  • Low Profile
  • Variable Range Targeting

Also new tooltips!

There is a 20% chance that quirk mechs will appear in the store. If you reopen the store window, the chance will refresh - this is not a bug, it is intentional for testing purposes.

Quirk-equipped mechs currently cost the same as regular ones. Negative quirks are not yet included.

This is also the first step on the road to pilot skills.

Please let me know if it has become more interesting.

Since you're using design quirks from the Alpha Strike companion I assume your not using the most current rules as listed in the Alpha Strike Commanders Edition? I'm pretty sure that supercedes the old books and they removed quirks altogether from Alpha Strike.

I use 2024th edition of the Alpha Strike CE rulebook.

Well once again as far as I know the new version of the Commanders Edition supercedes the old books rule wise. Quirks, both negative and positive, were removed from Alpha Strike all together. Which is dumb as I think it added another layer to the game. So I actually like that you added them to the game. I just wanted to make sure you knew that they aren't technically in the new Alpha Strike rules.

I know they were removed from the game. That's why I didn't assign them to specific mechs, but made them a random modifier. Not all A mechs have quirk B, just some mechs that you find in the store or salvage on the battlefield may have, for example, the “improved targeting computer” quirk.

This is done to ensure there is at least some progression. Alpha Strike is a very balanced game, and when you get a more powerful mech, it costs a lot more points, so you don't get the same advantages as in a typical RPG when you get a magic sword +2. Having quirks can help in this regard, at least to some extent.
